About the year 1985, when
the Japanese Terrier was facing extinction, less than 50 bitches
were left throughout Japan, which could be used to breed. According
to the utmost efforts devoted by a few volunteers who were aware
of the necessity to protect the breed immediately, and after spending
7 years doing so, the number of Japanese Terriers has reached
approximately 400 now. However, there is still a lot of work to
do, as the breed is still a rare one, even in Japan. Recently,
as some eager fanciers have appeared in several overseas countries
who have shown great interest in this breed, in an effort to achieve
a deeper understanding of the breed among these people, we decided
to publish this small booklet, in which you will find out all
about this cute and beautiful breed: The Japanese Terrier. I heartily
hope that the Japanese Terrier "families" will become
more extended around the world in the near future by the fanciers
who were charmed and gained right knowledge of this attractive
breed.
